INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — Southeastern Avenue reopened to traffic Tuesday night after a train derailment forced its closure two days earlier.
At 6:30 p.m. Sunday, the Indianapolis Fire Department was dispatched to the intersection of Southeastern Avenue and Earhart Street on a report of a train fire. While crews were on their way to the scene, the run was changed to a chemical spill with a possible bridge collapse.
Firefighters arrived and discovered six derailed train cars and a large amount of white powder. IFD confirmed that the powder was cornstarch that had spilled from two train cars when they went off the tracks. The other four train cars were empty…
