California Homebuyers Get Boost: New Program Offers Up to $200K in Two Expensive Counties

OAKLAND, Calif. — First-time homebuyers in Alameda and Contra Costa counties could soon receive a major helping hand. A new initiative from San Jose-based nonprofit Housing Trust Silicon Valley is launching the Home Access Program, offering up to $200,000 or 40% of a home’s purchase price in down payment assistance.

The program provides a 30-year deferred loan with no monthly payments, repayable only when the home is sold or the term ends. Eligible buyers must earn below 80% of the county median income—$84,600 for a single person or $120,800 for a family of four in Alameda County, per the California Housing Finance Agency.

Applications open in May. (Source: Housing Trust Silicon Valley)
