FedEx lays off 174 workers as it shutters Emeryville and Oakland shipping centers

FedEx has announced the permanent closure of two shipping centers in Alameda County, impacting a total of 174 employees.

The closures at the facilities, at 1600 63rd St. in Emeryville and 8455 Pardee Drive in Oakland, will take effect on June 2, due to a business reorganization, as detailed in a notice filed with California employment officials on Friday.

Employees were initially informed of the cuts verbally in January, followed by written notifications. The Emeryville facility will affect 79 workers, while 95 employees in Oakland will be impacted. Those whose positions are eliminated will have options to transfer to other locations, receive severance or take a leave of absence to search for new jobs within the company…
