Escaped killer Cesar Hernandez involved in shootout with Mexican authorities in Tijuana, avoids capture: reports

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KGET) — A sustained firefight broke out Wednesday afternoon in Tijuana where U.S. and Mexican officers attempted to arrest a murderer who escaped from a Delano courthouse months ago, according to multiple Mexican media outlets.

Several media outlets reported that a Mexican police commander, Abigail Esparza Reyes, was killed in the shootout. The same sites reported that the Delano escapee, Cesar Hernandez, escaped the shootout and remains on the run.

The shooting started after 1 p.m. in the Barcelona neighborhood of Tijuana, about 30 miles from the U.S. Mexico border.
