SACRAMENTO, Calif. – Governor Gavin Newsom marked National Crime Victims’ Rights Week by highlighting California’s expansive support for survivors across the state. Since 2019, California has invested over $1 billion in public safety, including $300 million for victim services, according to the Governor’s Office.
The state provides access to domestic violence shelters, rape crisis centers, victim advocates, and trauma-informed services through agencies like the California Victims Compensation Board and the Office of Emergency Services. In Sacramento, staff from the Office of Victim and Survivor Rights and Services were honored for their role in restorative justice and parole support.
New laws also extend restraining orders and increase restitution, while the 2024-25 budget includes $103 million for victim service programs.(Source: Office of Governor Gavin Newsom)
