As President Donald Trump rolls out tariff hikes on nearly every country around the globe, one manufacturing plant headed to the Southside of San Antonio is expanding its in-country plans to combat rising import costs. The JCB plant headed for the Southside will now double in size, going from 500,000 square feet to 1 million. It’s all in the wake of mixed emotions from residents in the area.
There’s no question that some folks are excited about the new British manufacturer coming to town . The company will create at least 1,500 jobs in the burgeoning industrial region of the city, and San Antonio District 4 Councilwoman Adriana Rocha Garcia says many of those will likely be hired right out the plant’s own backyard, mirroring a hiring process employed by Toyota down the road.
Though, reactions have been mixed, Rocha Garcia admits. Folks in the area have protested at city meetings, expressing concerns over traffic, pollution and impacts on zoning and property values. City officials, however, have repeatedly said nobody’s home will be rezoned…
