After Fleet Block’s demolition, Salt Lake City has grand plans for the nearly 9-acre site located at the center of the up-and-coming Granary District.
The big picture: The city-owned land was known for featuring large murals painted in 2020 of people killed by police in Utah and in the U.S. including George Floyd, Breonna Taylor and Bernardo Palacios-Carbajal.
State of play: Salt Lake is currently seeking two development teams to revamp four of those acres.
- Meanwhile, the city will launch a public engagement phase this spring to plan three acres of open space and “social justice”-inspired public artwork. A consultant team for that project has already been selected.
- Negotiations to sell an approximately 1-acre parcel located on the southwest end of the block to Sentry Financial are also underway. The nearby property owner plans to build family-sized units, affordable housing and ground level commercial space.
