Rain chances return to wrap up the workweek

COLUMBIA, S.C. (WIS) – Rain chances ramp up later tonight into early Friday.

  • Most of today’s daytime hours are dry and warm.
  • Rain returns tonight and continues into Friday.
  • Drying out for the upcoming weekend!

First Alert Weather Summary

We’re enjoying a nice and comfortable afternoon out ahead of our next chance for rain which could move in for some as early as this evening. Other than a stray shower north, most areas will not see any rain until later tonight and into early Friday. After the first batch of rain exits, a few showers during the afternoon are expected. Otherwise, clouds increase giving us a blend of clouds and sunshine. Before any rain arrives, high temperatures will reach the mid 70s.

Starting around sunset, and continuing into the overnight, a wave of scattered showers associated with an area of low pressure will move across the region. At times, occasional wind gusts and a few rumbles of thunder can’t be ruled out. These scattered showers will continue into Friday morning.

As our area of low pressure strengthens and moves offshore, additional showers and a storm or two will redevelop Friday afternoon. These will last through Friday evening, moving offshore with our low pressure system as it moves away from us. Once the rounds of rain are complete, rain totals of 0.25 to 0.75 inches are possible.

Thankfully, we’re drying out just in time for the upcoming weekend. Saturday will be a tad cooler and partly cloudy, with highs in the mid and upper-60s. By Sunday, skies full of sunshine return, with highs climbing into the low-70s.
