$61.5 million traffic-reducing project planned in Murfreesboro

MURFREESBORO, Tenn. (WKRN) — The Tennessee Department of Transportation just revealed which areas of the mid-state will get upgrades as part of its 10-year plan. The list includes a $61.5 million project that aims to reduce traffic on none of Murfreesboro’s busiest thoroughfares.

Murfreesboro City Council submitted plans to TDOT to be considered for the 10-year plan. The city and TDOT will team up to fund construction to widen Old Fort Parkway.

“We have over 50,000 vehicles traveling that corridor daily and it’s quite a bit of congestion along that corridor,” said Jim Kerr, Murfreesboro’s transportation director.
