STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. — As measles cases rise in the United States, and public health experts urge vaccination, Staten Island has been identified as the borough in New York City with the least protection against the illness.

Vaccination rates against the highly contagious — and potentially deadly — virus continue to drop in New York City, and the Staten Island vaccination rate is particularly concerning, according to reports.

Across the Island, no ZIP code has higher than a 74% vaccination rate for measles, mumps and rubella — also known at MMR — among children 24 to 35 months old, making it the borough with the least protection against measles, according to city Department of Health data provided to Gothamist…
