Former SAPD officer accused of shooting teen in McDonald’s parking lot is back in court

SAN ANTONIO — A former San Antonio Police officer accused of shooting Erik Cantu was back in court on Thursday.

James Brennand is charged with aggravated assault as a public servant in the 17-year-old’s shooting in a McDonald’s parking lot back in October of 2022.

The judge ruled in favor of the state on Thursday. They want the city to hand over files on 59 SAPD officers they say are tied to the case. This is going to delay the case going to trial another three to four months…
