CLEVELAND — 33-year-old Donald Mynatt has been sentenced to three years in prison and his driver’s license suspended for life after recently pleading guilty for failure to stop after an accident in connection with the deadly hit-and-run that killed 7-year-old Amir Prewitt in Cleveland last summer.
His sentence was handed down Thursday morning by Cuyahoga County Common Pleas Court Judge Joan Synenberg. In total, however, the judge ultimately sentenced Mynatt to six years behind bars as he was given three years for an unrelated case in which he also pleaded guilty.
“You are dangerous in our community. You are dangerous,” Judge Synenberg said prior to announcing her decision on sentencing. “It just is inhumane, especially as a father of five kids as of 2019, that you hit a little kid who’s out being a little kid playing and you leave because you’re concerned about the consequences you have. Because once again, you’re offending our community with an outstanding warrant. So you do what you always do. You took off. And then you continued to do that as law enforcement looked for you and found you cowering in a storage unit.”…
