Sharon Owens backers seek to boot 2 Democratic foes from Syracuse mayor’s race

Syracuse, N.Y. — Supporters of Syracuse mayoral candidate Sharon Owens filed paperwork today aimed at removing a pair of her Democratic rivals from the ballot.

Owens’ backers challenged hundreds of petition signatures for Alfonso Davis and Jimmy Oliver, jeopardizing their spot in the June Democratic primary.

The Onondaga County Board of Elections will likely rule on those objections next week and decide if Davis and Oliver get to stay on the ballot. Their decision could reduce a five-way primary to a three-person race…
