Helmetless Teen Dies in E-Bike Crash in Chino Hills

A 14-year-old boy has died following an electric bicycle accident in Chino Hills. The San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department reported that the crash occurred on Saturday at approximately 5:25 p.m. at Rock Springs Drive and Oakland Way. The boy was taken to Pomona Valley Medical Center, where he later died from his injuries. Another juvenile involved in the crash suffered minor injuries and was treated at the scene.

According to a Nixle alert from the San Bernardino Sheriff-Coroner , the boys were sharing the electric bicycle when they crashed on a residential street with bike lanes. The accident happened just past a curve at the base of a hill. Neither of the boys was wearing a helmet, despite California law requiring anyone under 18 to wear one while riding a bicycle, electric or otherwise. However, there is no indication that a head injury contributed to the boy’s death…
