STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. — A seal was spotted lounging on a South Shore beach on Saturday, startling residents by its sudden appearance.
A concerned resident sent a video of the seal — which seems to be a harp seal based on its markings — to the Advance/SILive.com.
The resident gingerly circled the sea creature while recording, catching its attention as it seems to rouse itself. The resident attempted to reach out to wildlife officials at Mount Loretto, but it was closed at the time.
This encounter comes just a couple of days before the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation released guidance on perhaps one of the cutest times of year: seal season!…
