Ferguson-area hotel fires lead to federal arson indictment

A Missouri man was indicted Wednesday on a federal arson charge in connection with fires set at a hotel near Ferguson last month.

Brandon Dallas Smith, 40, is accused of starting multiple fires at a hotel in the 2700 block of Target Drive on March 26, 2025. According to a criminal complaint filed in U.S. District Court in St. Louis on March 27, hotel guests were awakened by a fire alarm at 2:48 a.m. and found two fires burning outside hotel rooms and a third fire in the stairwell on the second floor.
