Record-challenging heat sticks around before brief Sunday cooldown

SALT LAKE CITY ( ABC4 ) — Happy Friday, Utah! We’re closing the workweek with very warm temperatures, again reaching 15-20 degrees above seasonal norms, and even higher for some places like Salt Lake City.

The bottom line? Temperatures stay very warm today, but a brief cooldown is around the corner.

Daytime highs will be similar to yesterday’s if not a couple of degrees warmer. Valleys will top out in the upper 70s to mid 80s, and the St. George area will again climb into the low 90s. Partly cloudy skies are on deck for most of the state, but they’ll be thin high-altitude clouds, – nothing that’ll bring rain but it could provide periods of shade.

Many places will be flirting with record highs, especially in northern Utah. Salt Lake City is forecasted to reach 84 degrees Friday which would beat the old 2023 record by a single degree.

A dry cold front is knocking on the door this Saturday and is knocking temperatures back for the weekend. Saturday will be about 10 degrees cooler than Friday in the north, but only a few degrees cooler in the south. It still won’t be “cool” by any means, we kick off the weekend with highs in the low to mid-70s for northern valleys, mid-70s to low 80s for southern Utah valleys, and mid to upper 80s for the warm spots down south…
