Secretary of state’s bill would allow campaign funds to pay for child care

A campaign finance measure championed by Nevada Secretary of State Cisco Aguilar seeks to make elected office financially feasible for more individuals by allowing campaign contributions to be spent for child care, elder care and other purposes.

Nevada law currently prohibits candidates for public office and elected officials from spending campaign contributions for personal use. The prohibition deters some individuals from serving in low-paying positions such as state legislator, which pays $130 a day for the first 60 days of the 120-day session, plus per diem amounts for travel and expenses…
