TEMPE, AZ (AZFamily) — Tempe residents will be able to build select backyard casitas more affordably after the city council passed a resolution earlier this week.
On Thursday night, the Tempe City Council approved a measure to make it easier and cheaper for homeowners to build pre-approved casitas, otherwise known as accessory dwelling units (ADU). The detached secondary homes can be used as guest houses or to create small rental units for extra income.
The resolution will bring pre-approved, ready-to-use ADU designs determined by the city’s design competition. With the new pre-approved designs, the previous initial plan review fee of $2,000 will be waived…
