Man sentenced in fatal shooting of ex-girlfriend at Canton hotel

CANTON TWP. — The man accused of murdering his former girlfriend while she worked as a hotel clerk in Canton Township last year will spend decades in prison.

Joseph Michael Slocum Jr., 24, of Wayne, was sentenced April 4 in Wayne County Circuit Court to 40-60 years in prison in the death of 19-year-old Veronica Crain. He pleaded guilty March 17 to second-degree murder and felony firearm charges.
