SHIPPENSBURG- After a man was found passed out in his car at a Shippensburg red light early on Friday morning, a Philadelphia man is facing charges of DUI and now assault of a law enforcement officer. Denell Trace Sanders Jr remains behind bars in Cumberland County Jail on $150,000 bail after being charged with felony aggravated assault of designated individuals, misdemeanor resisting arrest, misdemeanor evading arrest on foot, misdemeanor DUI, and a citation for retail theft.
Pennsylvania State Police Troopers were called to the Sheetz on E King Street in Shippensburg around 4:05am on Friday, April 11th for a report of an unresponsive male. EMS was already on scene and attempting to render aid to the man later identified as Denell Sanders Jr. Sanders Jr was reportedly found slumped over the wheel of his vehicle before he fled EMS into the Sheetz store.
Troopers arrived on scene and spoke to the manager on duty of the store, with them learning that Sanders Jr was “inside stuffing items into his pockets”. When the Troopers tried to speak with Sanders Jr and terry frisk him for weapons, they say Sanders Jr became hostile, backing away, and then ducking under the Troopers’ arms in an attempt to flee on foot. PSP say Sanders Jr got about 10 feet away before being grabbed by Troopers in an attempt to arrest him…
