New $2.3 Million Public Park Coming to Grand Rapids

UPDATE: Groundbreaking for the new park has been postponed due to severe weather forecasted on April 2. A new date will be announced soon.

The City of Grand Rapids is set to break ground on what is being called a $2.3 million “transformative public park.”

Located in southwest Grand Rapids at 680 E. Chavez Ave. SW, the park is part of the Plaza Roosevelt Redevelopment Project.

New Park Coming to Grand Rapids Plaza Roosevelt Neighborhood

Grand Rapids is getting another park with a hammock grove! And that’s not all – check out all the new parks’ amenities:

  • Multi-use welcoming area with vender space and a gathering area
  • Inclusive play areas for all ages and abilities
  • Hammock grove
  • Rentable shelter space
  • Public art installations
  • Sustainable landscaping
  • Safety and accessibility enhancements like improved lighting, designated bike baths, and drinking fountains with bottle fillers
