ASHEBORO, N.C. — Five people have been charged with various crimes after detectives with the Asheboro Police Department conducted search warrants at four local “game rooms” in the city.
In a social media post, Asheboro police said they conducted the search warrants in response to citizen complaints. Officers searched the following establishments:
- Oklahoma Games, 1528 Zoo Parkway
- Utopia, 128 N. Park Street
- Spin City, 1305 S. Cox Street
- The Room II, 239A White Oak Street
According to police, an investigation revealed that each of the four establishments were “illegally operating gaming machines and providing cash payouts for credits earned from gameplay.”
In total, police seized:
- 314 hard drives
- 5 firearms
- $68,933 in US currency
- 4 video surveillance systems
