Meghan Markle Reveals Postpartum Health Scare in Podcast Debut

The Duchess of Sussex, Meghan Markle, launched her new podcast, “Confessions of a Female Founder with Meghan,” revealing a personal health crisis she faced after childbirth. In the debut episode featuring Bumble founder Whitney Wolfe Herd, Markle disclosed she experienced postpartum preeclampsia, a rare and serious condition involving high blood pressure that can have life-threatening consequences if untreated.

Both Markle and Herd shared their parallel experiences with the condition, emphasizing its rarity and the fear it instilled. Markle, mother to five-year-old Prince Archie and three-year-old Princess Lilibet, did not specify which birth led to the health scare.

She described the challenge of managing the condition privately while simultaneously navigating the demands of new motherhood and public life. “You’re still trying to show up for people,” Markle stated, “mostly for your children.

But those things are huge medical scares.” Herd echoed the sentiment, underscoring the potential severity of the condition as “life or death, truly.”

The conversation also touched upon the contrasting approaches to introducing their newborns to the world. Herd recalled the image of Markle presenting Prince Archie two days after his birth, a departure from the tradition of immediate photos outside the hospital. Herd expressed awe for Markle’s composure, contrasting it with her own postpartum experience, describing it as a “wild” and “confusing” period.
