Early-morning fire at Motel 6 in Phoenix forces evacuations

PHOENIX — Firefighters were called in to action on Sunday morning after a fire broke out at a Motel 6 in Phoenix, authorities said.

Around 4:30 a.m., crews responded to a call near 52nd Avenue and McDowell Road, according to the Phoenix Fire Department. Upon arrival, firefighters found smoke coming from the second floor of the three story building.

Firefighters used power saws to cut into the walls and deployed hose lines to put out the fire. Authorities said the firefighters were able to put out the fire and prevent it from spreading to the rest of the building.
