Donley, Sherman Break Court One Wins Record

HONOLULU – The No. 10 California beach volleyball team closed out the Hawai’i Invitational with another pair of wins Sunday at Ching Complex in Honolulu, HI. The Golden Bears topped No. 13 Grand Canyon 4-1 before sweeping host No. 16 Hawai’i to extend their win streak to 11 straight duals.

With their first win of the day in the top spot, sophomore Emma Donley and Portia Sherman made history breaking the program record for the most court-one wins by a single pair with 22. The previous record of 21 was held by Mima Mirkovic and Caroline Schafer who accomplished the feat over the course of two seasons (2019 & 2021). It took the first-year duo of Donley and Sherman just 26 matches.

Donley and Sherman currently boast a 23-4 record this season and have won 10 straight matches, six of which came against ranked opponents. The Bears’ top pair is now just five wins away from breaking Cal’s single-season record of 27 set by Grace Campbell and Maddie Micheletti in 2018…
