Carter Family Reveals Shocking Details in New Documentary

Additional Coverage:

A new documentary, “The Carters,” offers a raw look into the struggles of the Carter family, revealing the tragic events that led to Aaron Carter’s death in 2022. Premiering April 15th on Paramount+, the documentary features Aaron’s twin sister, Angel Carter Conrad, along with other family members and friends, sharing deeply personal stories of loss, trauma, and heartbreak.

The documentary details a disturbing incident where a manic Aaron, seemingly under the influence of drugs, drove to his brother Nick Carter’s house with a gun in his car. Angel recounts a chilling conversation with Aaron where he confessed to thoughts of harming Nick’s wife and children, and revealed he’d been diagnosed with schizophrenia and bipolar disorder.

Fearful of the potential consequences, Angel initially withheld this information from Nick. However, Aaron’s subsequent acquisition of multiple firearms and threatening online behavior forced her hand. In September 2019, Angel and Nick filed a restraining order against Aaron.

The restraining order, intended to protect the family, seemed to escalate Aaron’s erratic behavior. He drove to Las Vegas, armed, and live-streamed his journey towards Nick’s gated community.

Family and friends frantically tracked his movements, fearing a violent outcome. The situation ultimately de-escalated when Aaron left after 45 minutes, but the incident left a lasting scar on the family.

The documentary also reveals the last encounter between Aaron and Angel, a tense courtroom exchange where Aaron’s guns were legally confiscated. He lashed out at Angel, declaring her “dead to him.” This marked a point of no return, with Aaron spiraling further into his mental health struggles and addiction.

Despite the family’s efforts to intervene and get Aaron help, tragedy struck in November 2022. Aaron drowned in his bathtub, with difluoroethane and alprazolam listed as contributing factors. His death was ruled an accident.

The Carter family has endured multiple losses, including Leslie Carter’s overdose in 2012, Bobbie Jean’s fentanyl overdose in 2023, and their father Robert’s death in 2017. Through “The Carters,” the family hopes to raise awareness about mental illness and the importance of seeking help. They aim to transform their tragedy into something positive, honoring Aaron’s memory and his desire to help others.
