Bezos Trips After All-Female Blue Origin Flight
West Texas – Jeff Bezos, the 61-year-old founder of Blue Origin, had a slightly embarrassing moment following the successful return of the New Shepard NS-31. After the approximately eight-minute flight, Bezos, eager to greet the returning crew, tripped over a small rise and fell face-first as he approached the capsule.
The all-female crew, which included notable figures like pop star Katy Perry and Bezos’ fiancée, Lauren Sanchez, landed safely back in West Texas. Bezos had expressed his love and anticipation for how the experience would change the crew before their departure.
Upon landing, Katy Perry knelt and kissed the ground in a celebratory gesture. She was joined by Sanchez, CBS co-host Gayle King, civil rights activist Amanda Nguyne, filmmaker Kieranne Flynn, and NASA rocket scientist Aisha Bowe.
Sanchez embraced Bezos after exiting the capsule and then rushed to greet her waiting family. In a prior interview, Sanchez shared a family motto, “Life takes off on the other side of fear,” explaining her motivation for joining the spaceflight, which occurs just two months before her planned wedding to Bezos.
Bezos himself participated in Blue Origin’s inaugural mission in 2021, a mission that aimed to increase accessibility to space travel. However, with ticket prices currently exceeding $1 million, space tourism remains a luxury for the wealthy.
Sanchez previously admitted to feeling both excited and apprehensive about the all-female flight, highlighting the crew’s shared passion for storytelling and their unique opportunity to share their experience with the world.
The couple’s upcoming nuptials are set to take place in Italy, with an estimated 200 guests attending a lavish celebration aboard a $500 million yacht.
