Wild Outer Banks massive bluefin tuna catches at NC pier end after officials step in, manager says

NAGS HEAD, N.C. (WNCN) — A rare, wild run of massive bluefin tuna along the coast of the Outer Banks to kick off April drew fishing enthusiasts to a Nags Head pier for a few days — reeling in the huge fish that typically are found out in the Atlantic.

But, the bluefin fun at the pier is over — government officials have ordered no more fishing for bluefin tuna at the site, according to Jennette’s Pier.

The big tuna began showing up at the pier two weeks ago on the final day of March, when several anglers worked for hours to land the fish, the historic Nags Head pier reported. A huge bluefin tuna jumping out of the surf was photographed later that day just off the pier.
