Shooting of 15-year-old leads to hourslong standoff in Grand Rapids

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) — Police surrounded a home in Grand Rapids’ Baxter neighborhood for hours Sunday night after they say a 15-year-old was shot earlier in the day.

Around 4:30 p.m., the Grand Rapids Police Department was called to Bates Street between Eastern Avenue and Dolbee Avenue for a report of shots fired. Officers did not find any victims.

About an hour later, a 15-year-old boy showed up at a nearby hospital with a gunshot wound to his leg that was not life-threatening, GRPD confirmed. It’s not clear what led up to the shooting…
