Speeding is dangerous. I know, an understatement if you’ve ever heard one, right? In all seriousness, the NHTSA says speeding is a factor in around 30% of traffic fatalities. It’s especially dangerous when the offender mixes speed with alcohol. It’s exactly the dangerous cocktail that one Florida woman unleashed on Tampa streets, driving nearly three times the speed limit after drinking “several glasses of wine.”

Okay, I think most car enthusiasts can agree that 55 mph on a three-lane stretch of highway feels a bit, well, slow. If you’ve ever hurtled across the Autobahn at triple-digit speeds or blasted down a British B-road at American highway speeds, you’d almost certainly agree. But that doesn’t excuse 25-year-old Allysia Ortiz’s decision to hit 150 mph on a Floridian highway with a 55-mph limit.
Fortunately, the Florida Highway Patrol (FHP) pulled Ortiz over, but not before she caused havoc while “passing cars and weaving in and out of traffic.” According to ABC Tampa Bay , Ortiz told the FHP that she “had several glasses of wine.” Officers confirmed that she smelled of alcohol at the time.
Officers arrested Ortiz for a DUI, likely after confirming her inebriation with a standardized field sobriety test (SFST) or breathalyzer test. However, her dangerous rate of speed is an easy case for reckless driving…
