Russian military aircraft were detected and tracked in the Alaskan Air Defense Identification Zone (ADIZ) on Monday, according to the North American Aerospace Defense Command (NORAD). The aircraft were monitored as they flew through the ADIZ, but did not enter U.S. or Canadian airspace.

NORAD confirmed that no intercept was required and the activity was not considered a threat. Such Russian activity in the Alaskan ADIZ is routine.

The ADIZ is a designated area extending 150 miles from U.S. territory where aircraft are required to identify themselves.
