State lawmakers pause bill that would allow MSCS takeover

MEMPHIS, Tenn. – Tennessee lawmakers paused progress on a bill that would allow a state takeover of Memphis-Shelby County Schools (MSCS).

The bill has been “placed behind the budget,” meaning the House of Representatives will not take any further action on the measure until after a budget is passed.

As FOX13 previously reported, the measure would create a board of managers that would essentially oversee MSCS for four years. But the cost of that board is not currently accounted for in the budget…
