Thunder expected as California weather to take ‘dramatic turn’ this week

The weather in California this week, particularly in the Northern area, is predicted to be unsettled, and there’s even a chance of snow in some parts, making it a far cry from last week’s baking heatwave.

Forecasters predict temperature swings, rain and thunderstorms, and the chance of some snow in the Sierra Nevada.

Slow-moving low-pressure systems are what’s driving this unpredictable weather in the state. While such low-pressure systems can evolve into strong storms during winter, due to the weaker systems in springtime the result is likely to be less dramatic.
