A New Grocer Opens Soon at This Los Angeles Corner

Vallarta Supermarkets is opening its newest location at 3300 West Slauson Avenue on April 23, 2025. The 46,333-square-foot store will replace a former Ralphs grocery, bringing new life to a high-traffic corner in Park Mesa Heights. This expansion deepens Vallarta’s presence in the area with a store tailored to local tastes and culture.

The location will feature all of Vallarta’s signature departments: carniceria, juice bar, La Cocina hot foods, tortilleria, and more. Inside, colorful murals and themed sections will reflect nearby landmarks and cultural heritage. The company will also donate $7,500 to local schools and nonprofits and offer free grocery bags to the first 300 customers.

Crenshaw Plaza: From Institution to Supermarket Anchor

The site has seen many transformations. Aerial images from the 1950s show that this corner once held an institutional building, possibly a school or church. By the early 1970s, the area had been cleared for what became the Crenshaw Plaza shopping center.
