Transformation Park, a pioneering facility dedicated to providing comprehensive support and resources for individuals experiencing homelessness, officially opened its doors with a ribbon-cutting ceremony April 12. The opening of the facility, located at 1501 S. 5th Ave., marked the culmination of years of collaborative efforts between the City of Amarillo, local churches, businesses, and community members. This project offers hope and a fresh start to those in need.
The grand opening celebration attracted local leaders, supporters, and community members who were eager to witness the realization of this transformative project. The initiative, born out of a response to Amarillo’s growing homelessness crisis, addresses this pressing issue in the city. A 2024 point-in-time count reported 525 individuals experiencing homelessness in Amarillo, but local leaders estimate the actual number is significantly higher due to underreporting.
Before the ribbon cutting, current Mayor Cole Stanley and former Mayor Ginger Nelson delivered brief speeches, both highlighting the community’s commitment to addressing homelessness. Mayor Stanley praised the collaborative spirit that made Transformation Park a reality and emphasized its role in balancing compassion with public safety.
