Seattle officer seen hitting man with baton in video disciplined

SEATTLE — One of two officers captured on video arresting a man at a Seattle bus stop faced discipline for excessive use of force and falling short in de-escalation techniques.

The Office of Police Accountability (OPA) proposed a 10 to 15-day suspension and possible demotion for the officer. The imposed discipline was a one-day suspension, along with a disciplinary transfer and re-training.

In June 2024, KING 5 obtained a 40-second video taken in south Seattle that shows part of the arrest. The interaction with the person being arrested was not captured on the video but was described in detail in the OPA report…
