Oregon urges EBT cardholders to protect against rising electronic theft

SALEM, Ore. (KATU) — The Oregon Department of Human Services (ODHS) is urging EBT cardholders to take proactive measures to safeguard their benefits amid a rise in electronic theft.

The department highlighted the increasing threat of card skimming, cloning, and phishing, which jeopardizes the food and cash assistance many Oregonians rely on.

According to the FBI website, skimming happens when devices are illegally installed on or inside ATMs, other payment terminals terminals, or fuel pumps to capture card data and record cardholders’ PIN entries…
