Construction of a championship golf course on 290 rolling acres in southern Greenville County is officially underway.
Kawonu Golf Club broke ground April 14 with a bulldozer and four shovels wielded by founding partners Scott Ferrell and Barton Tuck, as well as course architect Andrew Green and development manager Noel Tuck.
The site is located near the intersection of Fork Shoals Road and S.C. Highway 418, about seven miles west of Fountain Inn. About one-third of the site will remain a nature preserve, including the section along the Reedy River.
Construction on the 18-hole course is expected to be complete in 2027. Kawonu, the Cherokee word for duck, will be a private club with a cap of about 500 members. Several members and founders were at the groundbreaking…
