The Pitt County Sheriff’s Office detectives from the Major Crimes Unit launched an investigation that led to the arrest of 37-year-old Nisarg Mayank Acharya of Elon, under a couple of false pretenses charges.
Officials say on March 17, the Pitt County Sheriff’s Office was alerted by the Wayne County Sheriff’s Office about a scam that took place at the business complex located at 5900 MLK Highway, reporting that one of their residents had been defrauded out of $61,000, of which $39,000 was given in cash to the scammer.
Detectives launched an investigation and developed leads on one of the suspects, Acharya, and on March 31, obtained warrants charging him with two counts of Obtaining Property by False Pretenses and two counts of Conspiracy to Commit Obtaining Property by False Pretenses…
