ATLANTA — Georgia Governor Brian Kemp signed two bills Tuesday morning: one that claims to deliver more than $1 billion in tax relief to residents and another authorizing a round of direct payments of up to $500.
The signing happened at the Coca-Cola Roxy in Cobb County as part of the Cobb Chamber of Commerce’s “Marquee Tuesday” event.
Gov. Kemp was joined by Georgia First Lady Marty Kemp, members of the Georgia General Assembly, and local leaders to enact House Bill 111 and House Bill 112:
- HB 111 accelerates the state’s planned income tax cuts.
- HB 112 authorizes $1 billion in one-time special tax refunds to qualifying households.
“I’m also looking forward to seeing the impact of the two bills that I will sign today, putting money back where it belongs — in the pockets of you all, hardworking Georgians,” Kemp said.
How much is the rebate?
Eligible taxpayers will receive:
- $250 if filing as single or married separately.
- $375 if filing as head of household.
- $500 if filing jointly as a married couple.
The Georgia Department of Revenue will issue the smaller of either your 2023 state income tax liability or the maximum rebate amount for your filing status.
Who qualifies for Georgia’s rebate?
According to the bill:
- File a Georgia income tax return for both 2023 and 2024
- Not be listed as a dependent on someone else’s 2023 return
- Be a full-time Georgia resident for tax purposes
- Rebates will be reduced or offset by any outstanding debts to the state.
How will the rebate be sent?
Refunds will be sent automatically after your 2024 return is processed. Depending on your filing instructions, payments will be made either by direct deposit or check…
