Don’t get a ticket on your E-bike: Rules of the road

ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WROC) — You wouldn’t know it with today’s forecast, but eventually, the weather will heat up, which means more people will want to be out with their e-scooters and e-bikes. But there are rules for riding these devices.

With e-bikes and e-scooters, basic rules include using designated bike lanes and only riding on the right-hand side of the roadway. You also can’t ride these guys on the sidewalk.

James Thuerck with RPD’s Traffic Enforcement Unit says these rules are important for staying safe on the road. “If you’re following the rules, you’re less apt to be involved in an accident. You might be tempted to go too fast or do something outside your skill range with these bikes or scooters…
