Des Moines sober living home ravaged by fire Tuesday night

DES MOINES, Iowa — A Des Moines sober living home is uninhabitable after a fire broke out Tuesday evening.

Firefighters responded to the 1300 block of 11th Street around 7:15 p.m. When firefighters arrived at the home they found flames emanating from the building and thick black smoke billowing from the front windows of the first, second and third floors.

Captain Brian Davis, a District Chief with the Des Moines Fire Department, told WHO-13’s Katie Kaplan that there were three people inside the home when the fire started and that all of them were able to escape unharmed.

“They were able to get out the backdoor of the residence since there wasn’t any fire on that side of the house,” he said…
