Oregon Woman Pleads Guilty To Stealing $1.7 Million From Veterans Organization

DAYTON, Ore. – A Dayton woman pleaded guilty Tuesday to wire fraud after admitting she embezzled more than $1.7 million from the Department of Oregon Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW).

Cheryl Elizabeth Campos, 61, used her role as Quartermaster for the organization to illegally transfer money from VFW bank accounts to her personal accounts between January 2022 and June 2024, according to the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of Oregon.

Court documents show Campos covered up the theft by falsifying financial records, including bank statements and accounting documents. Prosecutors said the stolen funds were spent on personal expenses such as credit card bills, a vehicle for a family member, and hundreds of crystals, semi-precious stones, marbles and statues…
