White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt held a press briefing Wednesday with a “special guest,” Patty Morin, the mother of Rachel Morin, a young woman allegedly killed by an illegal immigrant. Morin spoke emotionally about the lack of transparency from authorities regarding her daughter’s death, claiming they kept details from the family to protect the integrity of the case. She described learning the full extent of the horrific details during the recent trial.
This follows a Tuesday briefing where Leavitt appeared to struggle to answer questions about President Trump’s request for the DOJ to investigate former cybersecurity chief Chris Krebs. The reporter questioned whether this constituted an abuse of power, given Trump’s previous statements on the matter. Leavitt’s response reiterated the President’s authority to sign the executive order, but offered little further clarification.
Tuesday’s briefing also touched on topics ranging from the meeting with El Salvadoran President Nayib Bukele to ongoing trade disputes. Questions arose concerning the agreement to send immigrants to El Salvador’s maximum-security prison, CECOT, particularly the controversial case of Kilmar Abrego Garcia.
Garcia, who was deported despite having protected status, is alleged by the Trump administration to be an MS-13 gang leader. Leavitt reiterated this claim during the briefing, while also providing an update on deportations nationwide.
She highlighted several cases involving alleged rapists and murderers.
