A walk down memory lane at Columbus’ old Golden Park

COLUMBUS ( WRBL ) – It’d be easy to look at the brand new ballpark that stands at 100 4th Street in Columbus and only think to the future. However, the history that is within the walls of the formerly named Golden Park cannot be ignored.

Babe Ruth, Ty Cobb, Mel Ott, Jackie Robinson, and so many other Baseball greats spent time at Golden Park. And though the park looks different, the field placement remains. The familiar arches in the opening walkway that now feature murals honoring the different eras of Golden Park’s history, the names of Baseball heroes that have graced the park on the wall, and even a giant mural of Hammerin’ Hank Aaron featured prominently in the Aflac Club.

Speaking of history, did you know that Harmon Killebrew was the first person to ever hit a homerun to dead center at old Golden Park? It was 415 feet in center field, so it’s not a surprise that it took a Hall of Fame slugger to finally reach that feat…
