After a viral video accused an Indy restaurant’s server of discrimination, the owner fired her

An Indianapolis restaurateur said she is still feeling the effects of a widely viewed video of diners alleging they faced racial discrimination from a server.

A couple says a server at Thaitanium Restaurant and Bar discriminated against them by telling them they needed to tip. Since then, restaurant has since been the target of people who believe the Mass Ave. spot promotes discrimination, co-owner Kanlaya Browning said.

In the video posted to TikTok over the weekend, a Black couple visiting the 735 Massachusetts Ave. restaurant could be heard asking non-Black customers if their server had told them they were required to tip in order to dine in, as they were. Browning said the server claimed she mentioned tipping because the couple had dined there before and not tipped.
