Indiana State Police identifies woman’s killer in 53-year-old cold case

FORT WAYNE, Ind. — Indiana State Police say they have identified the killer following a 53-year-long investigation into the murder of Phyllis Bailer.

On Friday, July 7, 1972, 26-year-old Bailer was traveling from Indianapolis to Bluffton with her 3-year-old daughter in a borrowed car to visit her parents. Bailer and her daughter left Indianapolis around 8 p.m., but they never arrived at her parents house in Bluffton.
