BATTLE CREEK, Mich. — Peggy Geruszka-Lehman grew up visiting Polish bakeries in Chicago. Every Easter, her family would purchase a lamb cake, a dessert found in many Polish American homes on Easter.
“You would have a centerpiece for your Easter dinner, and the traditional ones would have, like a ribbon around their neck that typically was red,” Lehman said. “There was a special meaning to that, and then your colored eggs would kind of go around it.”
But once that bakery closed, her family took matters into their own hands…
