Iconic former Myrtle Beach hotel gets new life as workforce housing complex

MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. (WBTW) –An iconic piece of Myrtle Beach’s past is roaring back to life in a very modern way.

The 62-year-old Waikiki Village Motel along South Ocean Boulevard has been fully renovated into workforce housing. The project — called Edge Apartments — looked to keep the building’s historic look while keeping up with current demand and new improvements happening around the city.

Jeff Proreschi, acquisitions director for GBX Group and part of the renovation team, said if not for the work, the landmark may have been lost forever…
